‘Dark Minions’ Delights

We ranked it:
This claymation comedy for adults is about two average joes trying to make it in life, their life being minions on a civilization-destroying spaceship in some distant future. On a reconnaissance mission they meet a sassy rebel and one underling becomes smitten. Hijinks ensue.
It’s a Star Wars fantasy parody with some Spaceballs flavor in the form of a character who could easily be played by Rick Moranis. Many a joke revolve around characters being inept; everyone, from the two minions to the evil spaceship commander, are bad at their jobs. In fact, one minion guy even saves his love interest because all his mess-ups with his buddy have unintended benevolent consequences.
The show has definite appeal with the Adult Swim, reddit, Funny or Die and CollegeHumor crowd with all of its weed jokes, pop culture references and attempts at a Seinfeld vibe.
Felicia Day’s Space Janitors series on her Geek & Sundry YouTube channel has a similar vibe to Dark Minions, but isn’t nearly as good. The limited claymation shown in the pilot looks fantastic and makes me miss Seth Green’s Robot Chicken. Dark Minions is written by Big Bang Theory co-stars Kevin Sussman and John Ross Bowie.
