YouTuber Daymon Patterson, aka Daym Drops known for his now viral food review of Five Guys, just announced he is making the leap to television with a show on Travel Channel called “Best Daym Takeout.”
“Get excited, I’m comin’ to your screen,” Patterson said in a YouTube video titled !!! My Own TV Show!!! If you couldn’t tell, he’s really excited about it: “I’m force-feeding you this energy… the vibe is crazy right now. I’m gonna be on TV man, every single week, all up in your box!” Drops says in the video.
“‘Best Daym Takeout” is part of Scripps’ original content push for 2013. The release announcing the show writes:
In “Best Daym Takeout,” Patterson continues to give fans his unique reviews and off-the-wall commentary while traveling the country in search of the best carryout in each town he visits. From big city eats to small town shops, Patterson’s blend of comically poetic descriptions will have viewers craving delicious takeout all over America.
Sounds very similar to Patterson’s current YouTube format, but that’s not surprising: online video can be a testbed for cable television. We saw it earlier this year when Fox announced a content and marketing deal with WIGS. And again when Nickelodeon unveiled a partnership with AwesomenessTV. So using the web to incubate television properties may be something that Scripps has in mind, especially considering that other thing the company is up to.
