Unruly Media is a video tech startup that wants to help brands get their videos watched and shared across the social web. It’s been doing this for quite a while now: The company opened its doors in 2006 and has since expanded to 11 countries and tracked 2.8 billion video views for more than 400 brand clients.
Last summer, Unruly launched a Social Video Lab in the UK, designed to help brands get a hands-on look at what drives video sharing on the social web, as well as access the tools and data necessary to launch successful social video campaigns. Now, the company is bringing that same interactive capability to the US with today’s launch of its first Social Video Lab in North America, housed in Unruly’s offices in Manhattan.
Unruly says those who visit the New York lab will be taken on an “interactive journey through the science and history of online video sharing.” In more practical terms, advertisers will also be able to check out current video trends and test-drive Unruly’s portfolio of social video products and services. These include ShareRank, a tool that Unruly claims can help brands predict the viral success of a social video campaign before it’s even launched.
If that sounds like it’s too good to be true, Unruly recognizes your concern. The startup also recognizes its track record: “Our video distribution platform has delivered more than 2,500 campaigns since 2007, including record-breakers such as Evian Roller Babies and Dove Real Beauty Sketches,” says Sarah Wood, co-founder and COO of Unruly. “We can advise advertisers on how to pounce on the hottest trends before they become mainstream and how they can utilize this insight to generate meaningful paid and earned media.”
Beyond just helping advertisers latch on to the latest trends, Unruly says it will also be able to help them see how their social video footprint stacks up against competitors as well as determine the best distribution strategies for their campaigns.
