Blayze is acquiring New Media Rockstars and will look to turn the digital/social media outlet into an “ESPN for YouTube culture.” VideoInk first heard rumors of the acquisition last week at VidCon. We have since received confirmation from sources close to the deal. Update: The deal has been called off — it was never finalized.
Founded by Ben Smith, a former executive at YouTube, Blayze started out as a platform to help YouTube creators find their biggest fans and then reward them via perks like exclusive content and merchandise. Blayze later pivoted from that data-centric focus to video curation, and has now bought NMR to continue on that path.
