Harry Shearer (“The Simpsons,” “SNL,” “This Is Spinal Tap”) is partnering with actress/singer Judith Owen to send-up reality shows like TLC’s “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo” via a new web series on My Damn Channel. “What’s with Honey Poo Poo?” will premiere on Thursday, August 29, and will run for five episodes.
Shearer has a working relationship with the My Damn Channel crew, having created original videos for the comedy network since it launched in 2007. These include music videos for Shearer’s most recent comedy album, “Can’t Take a Hint,” which featured appearances from Owen in the role of Sarah Palin, Condoleezza Rice, Lady Gaga, and others.
In “What’s with Honey Poo Poo?” Owen will play Teria, the mother of the titular character played by Rayanna Boasso. The series will follow the family, which also includes Kim Collins as the father, as they try to turn the Honey character into a star.
The series is executive produced by Shearer and Owen; produced by Tara Martin; edited by Tom Roche; with cinematography from Matt Mindlin.
New episodes will be made available every Thursday on Shearer’s My Damn Channel page, and will also be distributed across YouTube and Blip, among My Damn Channel’s other distribution partners.*
* It seems, for at least now, the Blip/My Damn Channel deal has not been affected by Maker Studios’ decision to acquire Blip last week.
