The series, which was co-created by Daniel Dominguez and Joe Gressis, follows the adventures of an intergalactic demon hunter who also happens to go to high school on Planet Earth. Featuring a mixture of live-action and animated characters, it’s one of the more popular shows on Shut Up! Cartoons — the first season averaged 1.5 million views per episode, and was nominated by the Webbys, IAWTV Awards, and Streamys.
The second season, which consists of 10 episodes, stars Korean-American actress Cathy Shim (“Drake & Josh”) as the voice of Oishi. It will also feature guest turns from YouTubers like Daily Grace, Catrific, and BrocksDubs. New episodes will roll out every Friday for the next few months.
In addition to the season two launch, the first season is now also available for download and/or rental via video on demand through outlets like iTunes, Amazon, PlayStation, Xbox, Google Play, and, of course, YouTube. The VOD package, referred to as Oishi High School Battle: The Kawaii Collection Vol.1, also includes a fully animated “original season,” as well as other bonus content.
Season two of “Oishi High School Battle” was written and executive produced by Dominguez and Gressis, who also directed alongside Adam Deyoe. Peter Lundquist produced.
Shut Up! Cartoons is a spin-off channel from the Smosh duo, Ian Hecox and Anthony Padilla, which originally launched as part of YouTube’s premium/original/funded programming initiative. It’s one of the few successes to come out of the program, having recently topped 1 million subscribers.
“Oishi High School Reunion,” Shut Up! Cartoons, and Smosh are all Defy Media (formerly Alloy Digital) properties.
