Another day, another respected Hollywood institution bestowing honors on Netflix. After the Producers Guild Awards and the Writers Guild Awards awarded Netflix multiple nominations for its original programming — which itself followed Netflix breaking some new ground at the Primetime Emmys — the American Film Institute has included two Netflix shows as part of its list of the top films and TV shows of the year.
The full list of AFI’s top 10 TV shows of the year is below, but as you can see, Netflix earned two spots with its original drama “House of Cards” and prison-comedy “Orange Is the New Black.”
The annual AFI Awards program award titles based on criteria like which films and TV shows “best advance the art of the moving image, enhance the rich cultural heritage of America’s art form, inspire audiences and artists alike, and/or make a mark on American society.”
AFI TV PROGRAMS OF THE YEAR
- “The Americans”
- “Breaking Bad”
- “Game of Thrones”
- “The Good Wife”
- “House of Cards”
- “Mad Men”
- “Masters of Sex”
- “Orange Is the New Black”
Also, for anyone keeping score, that’s two entries for Netflix, and two for HBO (also two for AMC, but you what I mean).
