Sports MCN The Whistle Network, which launched at the beginning of this month, has added a couple more YouTubers to its network.
Brodie Smith is a professional ultimate frisbee player. Similar to The Whistle Network’s top channel partner, Dude Perfect, Smith is known for his ability to make incredible trick shots (in his case, it’s always with a frisbee). His main YouTube channel currently reaches more than 500,000 subscribers, and has accumulated close to 59 million views. Smith owns two other channels, Brodie Smith Time and Everything Ultimate, which reach more than 47,000 subscribers and 41,000 subscribers respectively.
Shot Science Basketball, the other new addition to The Whistle Network, is run by a family of basketball players and coaches. Former winners of the YouTube NextUp contest, which aims to help up-and-coming YouTube creators learn how to grow their audience, Shot Science Basketball currently has more than 114,000 subscribers. The channel focuses on basketball instructional videos, drilling down to the fundamentals of the game, and also features advice videos from various pro basketball coaches and players.
The Whistle Network is run by youth-oriented sports media company The Whistle, which counts star athletes like Peyton Manning and Derek Jeter as investors. The company’s executive team includes former YouTube execs Julie Kikla and Dev Sethi.
“Millions of young athletes have watched Brodie and Shot Science to be entertained and learn more about the sports they love,” said Kikla, who serves as The Whistle’s head of content partnerships, in a statement. “We are thrilled to partner with them as they both bring deep knowledge about how to be a successful independent sports creator to our growing creator base. We are looking forward to helping them expand their audience and develop new, amazing sports content across multiple platforms.”
Multi-platform is a major area of focus for The Whistle. The company’s content and equity partners include MLB Advanced Media, PGA Tour, NASCAR, Major League Lacrosse, and US Soccer, among others. For YouTubers like Brodie Smith, Shot Science Basketball, and Dude Perfect, the company is able to offer access to these sports league media companies, as well as reach across platforms other than YouTube.
With the addition of Smith and Shot Science Basketball, The Whistle Network says it’s now on track to break 3 million subscribers this week.
