“Twin Peaks” actress Joan Chen has joined the cast of Netflix’s historical drama “Marco Polo,” which is currently in production.
The show, which will be shot internationally, focuses on the titular explorer’s journey to the center of a brutal war in 13th century China. Shooting locations include Italy, Kazakhstan, and Pinewood Studios in Malaysia.
Other new cast members include Chan Han and Clauda Kim, who join a lineup that includes Lorenzo Richelmy (“Il Terzo Tempo”), Benedict Wong (“Prometheus”), Zhu Zhu (“Cloud Atlas”), Tom Wu (“Skyfall”), Remy Hii (“Treading Water”), and Rick Yune (“Olympus Has Fallen”).
Scheduled to debut in late 2014, the 10-episode series is created by John Fusco (“Hidalgo”) and produced by The Weinstein Company and Electus. Fusco, Harvey Weinstein, and Electus serve as executive producers, with Electus also handling non-Netflix international distribution.
The first two episodes will be directed by Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg, the duo behind the Oscar-nominated “Kon-Tiki” and the upcoming “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.”
