Ben Stiller is executive producing season two of “Next Time on Lonny,” an absurd faux-reality series from creators Alex Anfanger and Dan Schimpf that’s being distributed by Maker Studios.
The season debuted on Maker.TV and YouTube earlier this month. According to Tubular Labs data, season two has generated 73,000 views to date on Nacho Punch, Maker Studios’ comedy channel on YouTube. (No word yet on how many people have watched the show on Maker.TV, where Maker places new episodes before also rolling them out on YouTube.)
To boost those numbers, Stiller showed up on “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon,” dressed as the character Hashtag the Panda. After a pretty funny dancing bit, Hashtag takes his head off, revealing that Stiller was the character this entire time.
“I’ve got this show that I’m producing for the internet,” he says in the clip. “It’s called ‘Next Time on Lonny,’ and so I thought I’d do [this].”
Showing up on a late-night show to promote a show or a movie is common in entertainment. But Fallon is known for having a huge presence on YouTube. His channel has more than 3.6 million subscribers. And if you look at the “about” section below the clip, it links to season two of “Next Time on Lonny.” So just in case someone watching on TV might have forgotten what Stiller was there for — with the dancing and all — Fallon’s YouTube audience is less likely to be.
Tubular’s numbers on season two of “Lonny” include the seven episodes that are already available on YouTube, in addition to a preview clip and one more video, which also features Stiller. I’ll let the clip speak for itself:
Ten episodes in total are planned for season two, featuring guest appearances by Stiller’s buddies like Patton Oswalt, Rob Scheer, and Adam Scott, as well as Maker Studios’ talent like KassemG and EpicLloyd.
