“Lizzie Bennet” is coming to a transactional platform near you.
Starz Digital Media, the digital and on-demand licensing and syndication arm of Starz, is making the entire Emmy-winning web series “The Lizzie Bennet Diaries” available for purchase on iTunes, Amazon Instant Video, Google Play, Xbox Video, Nook, CinemaNow, and Vudu.
The bundle, which will include an hour’s worth of bonus material ranging from behind-the-scenes gag-reels to various “making of” footage, will be available for purchase on June 23 — timed to the release of “The Secret Diary of Lizzie Bennet,” a book adaptation of the series from its executive producer Bernie Su and novelist Kate Rorick.
Full-season bundles are priced at $5.99 (SD) and $7.99 (HD), with individual episodes costing $0.99 (SD) and $1.99 (HD). For EST, one episode is equal to two-to-three YouTube episodes of “Lizzie Bennet.”
The bonus content fans get access to will depend on where they buy the bundle. Per the announcement, “participating partners” will make the series’ first episode and a “Making of: Adapting ‘Pride and Prejudice’” video available for free. Those who buy via iTunes will have exclusive access to a free download of a 33-minute “Making of” featurette.
Created by Su and Hank Green, “The Lizzie Bennet Diaries,” a vlog-style adaptation of Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice,” generated more than 60 million views across its run, via a YouTube channel that has more than 350,000 subscribers. The series lived across social media platforms, with the creative team launching and running multiple in-character social media accounts.
The availability of “Lizzie Bennet” on EST follows Starz Digital’s launch of the first two seasons of “Emma Approved,” an adaptation of Austen’s “Emma,” on the same platforms. Season three of “Emma Approved,” which is currently airing, will be available day-after-YouTube-air across transactional platforms.
Selling directly to fans isn’t entirely new to the “Lizzie Bennet” team, which famously ran a successful Kickstarter to create and distribute DVDs of the show.
