Currently in public beta mode, the Spin-Offs Network, executively produced by Scott Zakarin, brings together a world of inter-connected series. With characters appearing in multiple shows and collaborations described as “meta,” the network will launch officially in late July.
Taking advantage of VidCon starting tomorrow, the network will film a few episodes of its shows (including live vlogs performed in character) in Anaheim. For instance, couple and collaborators Grace and Sam of “Relationships 101” will have “just broken up” for the festivities, merging real life and fiction in real-time for the network that explores interactive, multi-platform entertainment.
Explaining the various collaborations and the network’s mission, Zakarin said, “We work with adventurous and talented writers, producers, and actors who can authentically blend reality with fiction.”
Actors on the network, known as “Spinners,” will remain accessible to audience suggestions. Through a community website, fans can interact with Spinners and even create content for the network.
Zakarin operates with business partner Rich Tackenberg, both of whom worked on “The Spot,” a web series that received Infoseek’s “Cool Site of the Year.” Zakarin’s other digital projects include TheFishbowl.com and “Soup of the Day,” which later became a feature film.
