In the wake of YouTube’s recent music industry controversy, the platform is making more moves towards a music mentality, having joined with SiriusXM to launch a new weekly show on satellite radio. “The YouTube 15” will use YouTube data to gather information on the next big hits, after which SiriusXM will pick and choose what songs to play on their Hits 1 channel.
Furthermore, the show has a host plucked right out of the popular YouTube community. Jenna Marbles, the vlogger and hilarious tips master, will host “The YouTube 15” on SiriusXM Hits 1, which will begin airing on Friday, July 11 at 6pm Eastern Time. The show will replay on Hits 1 throughout the weekend, also boasting availability on the SiriusXM Internet Radio App and on the satellite radio’s website.
With over 13 million subscribers to her YouTube channel, Jenna Marbles just posted her 200th video to the platform on June 19. She uploads videos to her channel on a weekly basis.
“I’m incredibly excited to be working in a new medium with SiriusXM,” said Marbles. “I think we are going to make a really cool show, and I’m honored that they picked me to do it.”
SiriusXM Hits 1 features big songs from the genres pop, rock, R&B, and hip-hop. Listeners tuning into “The YouTube 15” can expect to hear the likes of One Direction and Katy Perry…but ultimately, the Youtube community and SiriusXM will determine that.
