Connor Franta, one of the six creators on YouTube’s beloved boy group Our 2nd Life (O2L), posted his farewell video to the channel yesterday. Already viewed over one million times, the video shows Franta revealing a certain sadness behind the cheery visage he’s been wearing for Digitour, both on stage and in YouTube videos.
Though Franta boasts more subscribers to his personal channel than O2L does as a whole (about 2.8 million compared 2.1, respectively), his departure from the group should come as a big blow to many die-hard O2L fans. Managed by Fullscreen, the YouTube group includes members Ricky Dillon, JC Caylen, Kian Lawley, Sam Pottorff, and Trevor Moran in addition to Franta.
Describing video posts for O2L as “starting to feel like a job…something I have to do instead of something I want to do,” Franta said that he will still upload footage to his own channel on YouTube. He further acknowledged, “I’m not the kid who’s making videos in his bedroom for fun four years ago. I hate that.”
O2L’s five remaining members support Franta in his “new chapter,” as their various tweets suggest. His video message describes that he leaves the group with no bad blood between them and suggests he will continue to hang out with them in real life.
