Some of the quirky cast of characters that comprises Smosh Games — Jovenshire (Joshua Ovenshire), (Matt) Sohinki, Mari (Takahashi) and Lasercorn (David Moss) — took a break from the bustle of VidCon 2014 to talk with Jocelyn Johnson at the VideoInk pop-up studio. The group was excited to chat about the frenzy and fun of meeting many of their fans and viewers, as well as the latest buzz about their business. Smosh Games just launched “Honest Game Trailers” in partnership with Screen Junkies, the producers behind “Honest Trailers.” The satirical trailers, were, as Sohinki put it, “a natural next step” for gaming audiences who are a fan of both Smosh and the “Honest Trailers” videos.
While the present and the future are full of opportunities for the gaming group, they backtracked to discuss the origina of Smosh Games. Lasercorn explained that as a recent college graduate with a degree in video production, he simply answered a Craigslist ad seeking a producer for gaming videos. He and his friends were pleasantly surprised to learn that the ad was not, in fact, too good to be true, and was instead the start of their career in an industry that totally suited them as creators, friends, and professionals. “As we moved forward, we found out we were in a really evolving industry where we were able to hang out, be ourselves, be friends, and it’s been working for us so far,” explained Jovenshire.
