‘Epic Meal Empire’ First Episode on YouTube Before TV Debut
In a solid move by FYI TV network and the originally internet famous dudes of “Epic Meal Time,” the first episode of “Epic Meal Empire,” the Sauce Boss & Co’s upcoming television series, is out on the EMT YouTube channel.
Remaining loyal to the show’s place of birth, the bacon-loving crew has made the entire episode available online prior to its TV premiere this Saturday night at 10pm ET. The twenty-minute episode shows the guys doing what they do best, along with the addition of a new lady member responsible for connecting epic meals to those who crave them (and who garnered a lukewarm reception from the guys). You can watch it below:
FYI isn’t the first network to apply the tactic of a pre-TV online release. HBO has made this a practice, as with its recent digital debut of “The Leftovers” pilot on Yahoo Screen. The premium network has also been known to put season premieres of shows like “Girls” and “Newsroom” on YouTube. Other networks have done the same to drum up interest in budding programs and seasons.
It makes even more sense in the case of EMT, which gained its loyal following on YouTube (with a current count of over 6.4 million digital subscribers). So as not to alienate fans who started watching on the internet, a pre-release on the digital video platform will show longtime viewers where the dudes’ loyalties lie even though they’ve gained TV-sized fame.
