YouTube’s Peter Hollens has signed a record deal with Sony Music Masterworks, which will distribute his first album on October 28 under its Portrait Records imprint.
Hollens, known for his regular YouTube video uploads in which he sings “medleys” from musicals and movies, functions as a single man a cappella group. However, Hollens doesn’t always work alone. His recently collaborated with Nick Pitera, another YouTube celeb, on a “Wicked Medley,” and has also worked with Tyler Ward and Lindsey Stirling.
With over 753,000 subscribers, Hollens has come out with upwards of 70 digital singles. His involvement in digital extends to a position on the YouTube creator advisory board, and he has provided counsel for companies like Loudr, Tubular, and Patreon.
Hollens’s new album will be “consistent with the material [he has] been releasing the last three years.” Though he’s received multiple record deal offers within the past year or so, Hollens ended up with Masterworks for a reason:
“I really believe that this label specifically is being very progressive with where the industry is now and where it is going,” Hollens explained. “For the first time ever I had been forced to look at the real value proposition that a traditional label can provide an independent artist…this deal just made far too much sense for me to pass up.”
