Since its launch in January 2013, The Brain Scoop has accumulated more than 250,000 subscribers and 9.2 million views. And it’s a global channel, with 45% of views coming from outside of the US, according to Vlogbrothers Studios head Hank Green.
Content for Brain Scoop is hosted and produced by Emily Graslie, who joined The Field Museum in Chicago as its chief curiosity correspondent in June of 2013. At the same time, production of channel content moved to the museum, part of a larger deal for The Field Museum to operate the channel under a license.
“Over the last year the channel has been a wonderful asset as we pursue our goal of communicating better to the public and reaching new audiences,” said Field Museum president Richard Lariviere in a statement.
Meanwhile, the Vlogbrothers will continue to chug along on their educational content initiatives. Earlier this year, the studio announced a deal with PBS Digital Studios to produce two new series for the Crash Course channel (2.4 million subscribers). There’s also the SciShow channel (2.2 million subscribers), which was selected by YouTube in its third wave of paid advertising campaigns.
