Glamour has launched a documentary video series that will follow Melissa Arnot’s ascent of Mount Everest.
Called “The Climb,” the docu-series focuses on Arnot’s sixth attempt to summit the famous peak. For this attempt, Arnot is choosing not to use supplemental oxygen, making it an even more challenging feat. Right now, she’s at Everest Base Camp, ready to begin her climb.
Split into six parts, the series is co-produced by Condé Nast Entertainment for Glamour’s website. The first episode is currently available on Glamour.com and CNE’s video platform, The Scene. You can allow track Arnot’s journey through the hashtag #MeliClimbs.
Arnot’s journey is especially unique in that she’ll be the first American woman to try and summit Everest without supplemental oxygen. She last attempted to summit the mountain a year ago, but an avalanche prevented her and ended up killing some of her friends (she was part of the rescue efforts). Arnot is also the founder of The Juniper Fund, which supports the families of workers killed on Mount Everest.
“Pursuing this challenge is incredibly personal to me,” said Arnot. “It is the most difficult thing I have tried, and the idea that the limits of possibility are something I can challenge is incredibly inspiring to me.”
