Having announced that “Food Network Star” will return to TV this summer with its companion web series, “Star Salvation,” Food Network has released another web series, “Foodie Call with Justin Warner.”
The series actually stars a former “Food Network Star” (Warner) as he meets the “experts” behind culinary trends and comes up with new dishes inspired by them. The web series will follow Warner to Brooklyn, for example, as he meets Brent Young of The Meat Hook. “Foodie Call with Justin Warner” will also feature appearances by Sarah Leslie, the education director at Gimme Coffee, and Ivan Orkin, the creator of Ivan Ramen.
Episodes of “Foodie Call” run for about four minutes. Several of them are already available to watch on the Food Network’s website.
Other Food Network competition series on TV, “Beat Bobby Flay,” “Chopped,” and “Cutthroat Kitchen,” will get companion web video content like “Food Network Star”…but not quite like it, as the digital video content for those TV series will mostly include interviews and show highlights (and are not series in themselves). Interviews conducted by Guy Fieri, of “Guy’s Grocery Games,” will also be available online once the show starts airing on TV again in June.
