It was a big night for Anthony Padilla and Ian Hecox of the YouTube comedy duo Smosh, who unveiled Madam Tussaud’s wax figures made in their likeness on the red carpet of the premiere of their first feature, “Smosh: The Movie,” in the Westwood section of Los Angeles on Wednesday.
The choice to premiere the film on the eve of VidCon is a natural one for Smosh, which is one of the internet’s most recognizable comedy brands, with over 30 million subscribers on YouTube.
The duo are among the first online video stars to be immortalized in wax along with Jenna Marbles (15.3 million subscribers), whose wax likeness was unveiled at Madame Tussaud’s New York location today. All three wax figures will join Madame Tussaud’s regular rotation, spending three months at a time in each of the museums six locations in San Francisco, New York, Hollywood, Orlando, Las Vegas and Washington D.C.
Produced by Defy Media and AwesomenessTV, “Smosh: The Movie” will be released domestically by Lionsgate on July 24. It opens internationally on July 26.
