Comedy Central announced today’s debut of “Swag-A-Saurus,” starring comedian James Davis, its first original series made exclusively for its Snapchat Discover channel. Additional Comedy Central series from comedians Nikki Glaser, Liza Treyger, Yassir Lester and Michelle Wolf covering such themes as pop culture, news, sex and relationships will premiere on the platform throughout the fall, dates TBA.
“Swag-A-Saurus” features “hood adjacent” comedian Davis giving viewers a weekly lesson in today’s hottest slang. He will also take requests from viewers for slang they’d like him to define in upcoming episodes.”
This being Snapchat, “Swag-A-Saurus” is more like an extended Vine post (complete with looping) than anything most people would regard as a TV series. The first installment of the show, which explains the term “bye felicia,” runs approximately nine seconds.
Comedy Central is also one of the content providers for Verizon’s just-announced Go90 mobile platform, along with AwesomenessTV, Comedy Central, Discovery Communications, ESPN, Machinima, Maker Studios, MTV, New Form Digital, Nickelodeon, Scripps Networks Interactive, Tastemade and Vice Media. The programming will be a mix of original digital series, prime time shows and live events.
Discover launched on Snapchat in January, with channels from content providers including Vice, Food Network, National Geographic, Yahoo News, People, Daily Mail, CNN, ESPN, Warner Music Group and Cosmopolitan, as well as Comedy Central.
The upcoming Comedy Central Snapchat series are:
- “Quickie with Nikki”: a weekly series hosted by Nikki Glaser, whose Comedy Central series “Not Safe with Nikki Glaser” will premiere in 2016.
- “Never Wrong with Yassir Lester” (working title): a weekly series in which Lester takes on one news story each episode, eviscerating all points of view except his own.
- “Like it with Liza: Trust me I’m Right,” a weekly series in which Treyger tells viewers what to consume and why why — from what to buy, who to follow on Instagram, what to watch on TV, to what to check out on YouTube after getting high.
- “Now Hiring” — A sketch series featuring Michelle Wolf as the world’s most inappropriate recruiter.
