While streamers such as Netlix and YouTube make headlines with their moves in the kids online video space in the U.S., over in India, ChuChu TV has been quietly building– as far as the North American media is concerned, anyway — a massive audience with its digital children’s programming.
Since debuting in early 2013, its YouTube channel has racked up more than 2.34 million subscribers and 2.68 billion views for its videos, which aim to engage and educate children through colorful animations set to well-known nursery rhymes and upbeat original songs.
Recently, ChuChu TV launched a second YouTube channel, ChuChu TV Surprise, featuring a cast of colorful animated “surprise eggs,” along with characters from its first channel including Mr. Harlo, the Finger Family Unicorn Elephant.
“We wanted to do something unique, so we have started this channel with a series called ‘Surprise Eggs Nursery Rhymes,’” said ChuChu TV creative director Vinoth Chandar in a statement. “Both surprise eggs content and nursery rhymes content on their own have a huge following of preschoolers on YouTube. We simply merged these ideas, and the results are showing.”
Since debuting in March, ChuChu TV Surprise has accumulated more than 12K subscribers and 3 million views.
ChuChu TV started as a small side project at an of the media and technology firm ChuChuTV Studios, based in Chennai, India, but it has quickly grown into an important segment of the business.
“We can proudly say we are the first ever YouTube channel to mix the concepts of surprise eggs and nursery rhymes,” Chandar said. “Furthermore, we now have a separate art team for this channel, and we already have hundreds of new concepts waiting to be executed.”
