Live streaming start-up Firetalk announced on Wednesday that it has added a new feature, dubbed Guest, that allows any broadcast on the platform to instantly invite audience members to join them on-air during a live episode.
It also announced partnerships with 15 channels, including those of TMZ, TheWrap, and 17-year-old singer/songwriter Maggie Lindemann (1.2 million followers on Instagram), that will see them using this new feature to interact with their guests.
TMZ will use Firetalk to power a live stream that will run after its daily syndicated linear TV show”TMZ Live” show, with Guest bringing staff, viewers and contributors together. TheWrap will use Firetalk to conduct celebrity interviews and to interact with its audience live from parties, festivals and award shows.
Live streaming is hot area in the digital content space, with emerging platforms such as Meerkat and Twitter-owned Periscope and the gaming-centric Twitch, the latter of which seems to have inspired YouTube to improve its live streaming capabilities.
Firetalk officially launched at VidCon in July with a three-day series of live stream interviews from the convention center floor. In has partnered with high profile content creators including The Young Turks and Shira Lazar of “What’s Trending.”
Other social media stars who have signed on to use the Guest feature include Dr. Tabasum Mir, Pooja Kumar, Jared Tousley, Ross Everett, Sam Collins and Brian Fanzo.
