Marriott International has been making a mark in the online video space with a series of narrative shorts produced by its in-house content studio that showcase its various destinations around the globe. Now, its Renaissance Hotels division is directly engaging customers in the production process with its Play to Stay contest. Presented in partnership with musicians lodging search app Bandsintown, it offers touring emerging artists a chance to stay at Renaissance Hotels for free in exchange for recording a video of an impromptu song or jam session on location.
Twelve artists recorded videos, ranging from a bathtub performance to a serenade for the kitchen staff and a lobby takeover, and they were viewed by and voted on by the public.
Today, Renaissance named folky Welsh rockers Neck Deep the Play to Stay contest winner for its video for its song “Lime Street,” which organically generated the most views (nearly 25,000), earning the band $10,000 Renaissance Hotels gift card, as well coverage across Marriott International and Renaissance Hotels’ social and digital channels.
“We want to inspire the next generation of entrepreneurial business travelers who crave the unexpected and provide them with experiences worth sharing,” said Dan Vinh, VP of marketing for Renaissance Hotels, in a statement. “Their experience at a Renaissance Hotel may give them a new perspective, help them do their jobs better or give them a fun story they can take home or to their next meeting.”
Last month, Renaissance Hotels premiered the second seasons of “The Navigator Live,” a live event program and TV show produced in collaboration with AEG that lets viewers to explore new cities through the eyes of the ultimate business traveler — musicians. It can be seen on AXS TV, as well as online at Renaissance YouTube channel and Facebook page.
