Anyone searching for proof that digital platforms are changing not just the distribution of visual entertainment, but also its form, need look no farther than the Tribeca Film Festival (TFF), which today announced a surprisingly star-studded panel of jurors for its Tribeca Snapchat Shorts competition that includes actors Jessica Alba (Snapchat uername: jessicamalba) and Steve Buscemi and deejay Steve Aoki (Snapchat uername: aokisteve) and DJ Khaled (Snapchat uername: djkhaled305).
It’s not TFF’s first venture into ultra-short-form, social video-based filmmaking. In 2013, it launched the #6SecFilms Competition for Vine videomakers.
For the Tribeca Snapchat Shorts competition TFF has called upon Snapchat users from around the country to create a story using the platform (maximum length: 200 seconds). They must save their completed story to their Snapchat “camera roll” using the “save story” button.
Legal residents of the U.S. can enter through March 8. The 10 winners will be announced at “The 15th Annual Tribeca Film Festival” in New York City in April.
The other judges Tribeca Snapchat Shorts are producer/director David Gordon Green (“Pineapple Express,” “Prince Avalanche” and “Manglehorn”), actress/model/author Shay Mitchell (“Pretty Little Liars”) and director/artist/designer Vashtie.
