Actor/comedian Kevin Hart (“Ride Along,” “Get Hard”) is going over-the-top with a new Lionsgate deal, announced today.
Lionsgate is partnering with Hart and his company Hartbeat Digital to launch a new video-on-demand service, Laugh Out Loud, as well as create a new social adventure mobile tablet game.
Laugh Out Loud will serve as the exclusive home for all content created by Hart outside of his film and live touring activities, including original series starring Hart. One of the first shows in development is a hidden camera series in which Hart will star as an undercover Lyft driver.
The service will also feature content curated by Hart, along with shows featuring social media stars and rising comedians, including a series starring Logan Paul, one of the most viewed content creators on Facebook (300 million video views last month) and Vine (nearly 4 billion loops).
Lionsgate is also teaming with Hart and game developer Fifth Journey to create a social adventure mobile game starring and written in collaboration with Hart. In the game, players will become comedic rock stars with Hart as their mentor, embarking on adventures that include touring the country, starring in movies and hosting award shows.
“I understand the direction in which the television business is headed, and I see this big new space toward which audiences are starting to gravitate,” said Hart in a statement. “I believe that launching this venture together now puts us ahead of the pack.”
Laugh Out Loud is the third OTT service announced by Lionsgate in the past year, following Tribeca ShortList, which launched last fall in partnership with Tribeca Enterprises, and Comic-Con HQ, a co-venture with Comic-Con International scheduled to debut this summer.
Hart, 36, began his career as a stand-up comic, and today is one of the top live comedy attractions in the world, with a string of international tours that have been turned into hit movies (“SeriouslyFunny,” “Laugh at My Pain,” “Let Me Explain”). Last August, he filmed a sold-out stop on his “What Now? tour at 52,000-seat Lincoln Financial Field in his hometown of Philadelphia.
Hart’s film career has been equally successful. The “Ride Along” “and Think like a Man” franchises, “Get Hard,” “The Wedding Ringer,” “About Last Night” and “Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain” have collectively grossed over $1 billion at the global box office. His next film, “Central Intelligence,” co-starring Dwayne Johnson, will be released by Warner Bros. on June 17.
Hart is also the co-creator, writer, executive producer and star of the BET reality TV series parody “Real Husbands of Hollywood.”
