Margaritaville, the tropical-minded, party-friendly lifestyle company founded by singer/songwriter Jimmy Buffett, announced today that it has appointed a trio of executives to support its expanding media and digital business — Sarah Ramey, head of content; Sam Keene, head of digital marketing and platforms; and Talar Sarkissian, head of business development and operations.
Ramey previously led production and development for video and events at Gawker Media, which she departed in May, two months after it came out on the losing end of a $140 million judgment in an invasion of privacy lawsuit brought by professional wrestler Hulk Hogan. Gawker filed for bankruptcy last month.
Earlier in her career, Ramey served as head of development and production at Edward R. Pressman Film Corporation, where she worked on such films as Oliver Stone’s “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps,” Werner Herzog’s “Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans” and the current IFC release “The Man Who Knew Infinity,” starring Jeremy Irons and Dev Patel.
As head of content for Margaritaville, Ramey will oversee the development of all editorial and video content, beginning with a series of travel-oriented videos.
Keene comes to Margaritaville following stints at lifestyle brands NASCAR and Red Bull. At Margaritaville, he will spearhead the development of its digital presence and expand its social footprint to “reach those yearning to live life on island time,” according to the company, starting with the newly-relaunched Margaritaville blog (blog.margaritaville.com).
Prior to Margaritaville, Sarkissian was the chief operating officer for the mobile video app SpeakUp. As head of business development and operations for Margaritaville, the multilingual executive will be responsible for establishing new business integrations and leveraging key partnerships to drive audience engagement and growth, with an emphasis on millennials, through the curation and syndication of content across Margaritaville’s global network and on Margaritaville.com.
All three new hires will report to Laura Lee, president and chief digital officer of Margaritaville Media, which produces video series, editorial and branded content, as well as immersive digital experiences, that “offer audiences an escape to Margaritaville anytime, anywhere,” according to a press release.
The Margaritaville brand encompasses consumer products, restaurants, retail shops and hotels and resorts, as well as Radio Margaritaville on Sirius/XM, Margaritaville, which features live broadcasts of Jimmy Buffett concerts.
