Multi-platform production company HooplaHa-Only Good announced today that it has partnered with Roker Media to produce the live streaming network’s first slate of original programming.
Roker Media was launched in April by NBC’s “Today” co-host and weatherman Al Roker in partnership with JRSportBrief founders JR Jackson and Charlie Stettler, Frederator Networks founder and CEO Fred Seibert and music impresario Lyor Cohen (Def Jam Recordings, Warner Music Group, 300 Entetainment). Its mission is to create stories, commerce and branded-entertainment experiences native to live streaming platforms such as YouNow, Periscope, Facebook Live, and YouTube.
The first product of the HooplHa-Roker Media deal is “JoyStory,” scheduled to debut in August. This series follows JoyRide cycling instructors Adam Keller and Jared Marinelli — who scored a viral video hit with their flash mob same sex wedding proposal on Valentine’s Day — as they plan their wedding.
Other series from HooplaHa’s originals line-up will feature Virginia Mahoney, founder of Bkind, Francesco Clark of Clark’s Botanicals, Barbara Reich of Life Organized, and the rescue dogs of Life in the Dog House.
“We are always looking for unique and inspiring partners,” said Roker in a statement. “HooplaHa provides access to compelling, uplifting, socially aware content that is also entertaining. We expect to drive a thoughtful and immediate conversation around how to make the world a kinder, more compassionate place by connecting viewers into the HooplaHa programming in real time through YouNow, Periscope, YouTube, and Facebook Live.”
In the last year and a half, Roker has launched several digital video initiatives, including live stream analytics tracking service RokerLabs and “The Lift,” a morning weather show for mobile devices produced in partnership with The Weather Channel. He is chairman of Roker Media.
Founded in 2012 by digital entrepreneur Rick Fernandes, HooplaHa is designed to serve as an antidote to bad news by celebrating local heroes who inspire, people promoting kindness and those overcoming adversity with grace, as well as animals and nature that bring joy. It is based in Norwalk, Ct.
