“There’s two really, really powerful ways to engage young people: music and sports” — Paul Kelly
Awesomeness TV just lost their CPO, Paul Kelly, to Whistle Sports. Kelly will join the company as its chief revenue officer, a newly created position for the company.
In the new role, Kelly, who will be based in New York and is expected to start early September, will report to president and co-founder Jeff Urban. Kelly will work with Whistle’s sales, brand, and business development teams in an effort to connect with marketers, agencies, partners and platforms.
Prior to Awesomeness TV, Kelly spent five years at Viacom, most recently as VP of music brand sales. He has also spent time working at Discovery Communications and Sony BMG.
“For a long time I’ve believed there’s two really, really powerful ways to engage young people: music and sports… The delivery vehicle obviously has shifted for music — and now that’s happening for sports,” Kelly told Variety when asked why he made the change.
Whistle Sports claims to reach an audience of 375 million subscribers across YouTube, social media, and other platforms and says it is growing at a rate of over 2 million per week
“There’s been an explosion of short-form, mobile-first video — and that’s limited the appeal of sitting through a three- or four-hour football or baseball game” for younger fans, Kelly continued. “Whistle has pioneered a new category for sports visual content.”
