Thumb Candy Media’s “Make Up or Break Up” is making a killing on Facebook’s Watch platform. The Social media giant has ordered 12 more episodes of the series following a 31% increase in viewership and a 328% leap in followers after the first four episodes of the weekly series. With the extension, a total of 20 episodes will air during the first season of the show, which is hosted by online influencer Shannon Boodram and executive produced by showrunner Corin Nelson.
The series capitalizes on the platform’s ability to communicate with its audience through the comment section. The show encourages the Facebook community to help determine if couples should stay together or separate.
“We are thrilled to see Facebook share our enthusiasm for “Make Up or Break Up,” which has attracted a phenomenal level of social media engagement on this new groundbreaking video platform,” commented B-17 principals and TV veterans Rhett Bachner and Brien Meagher, who launched Thumb Candy, together with backer Core Media Group.
“This concept is quickly becoming popular because so many young viewers can relate to these couples grappling with their same issues,” they added. “They can also contribute their thoughts to the show, get feedback from the host and, most importantly, affect the actual outcome in real time regardless of the time zone. If that’s not the future of content then we don’t know what is.”
Shannon Boodram has over 300,000 subscribers and more than 17 million views across her social media accounts.
