Machinima, the gamer-focused entertainment company, is throwing its hat in the ring that is Facebook’s Watch. The entertainment company is launching three shows on the platform that include gamer dating show “Co-Op Connection,” sketch comedy show “Dank/Fire,” and comic book-obsessed “Action Figures Comics.”
The new additions highlight Machinima’s recent commitment in turning itself into a cross-platform gamer entertainment service, delivering content everywhere its audience consumes media. Machinima has premiered content on Twitch, with its recently launched 24/7 channel, as well as Verizon-owned go90, Amazon Video Direct, Xumo, Comcast Watchable, and Playstation Vue.
Internationally, the company has partnered with AMC Networks Iberia in Spain, Portugal and Mexico, Studio+ in multiple international markets and Sohu, which provides Machinima with a critical presence in the Chinese market.
Facebook has continued to beef up its offering on Watch. The platform, which launched with approximately 40 shows, now has well over 100 original series, with new content being added each week. Initially, the social media giant was funding content, but soon plans to transition to a more YouTube-like strategy where “business will primarily be thru revenue shares that normal creators and businesses put into the system,” as Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg explained in a recent earnings call.
In sync with its future strategy of relying on UGC, the company recently launched several updates to the platform –including an section dedicated to creators — in hopes of luring influencers to its platform.
