Simon’s Cat Has a New Home at Channel Frederator Networks

The Channel Frederator Network, an animation MCN from Fred Seibert’s Frederator Studios, has signed Simon’s Cat, the second-most popular toon channel on YouTube.

Simon’s Cat, which tells the ongoing adventures of a cat who is always trying to get fed, boasts more than 2.77 million subscribers and 470 million total views to date. The channel was formed by British animator Simon Tofield in 2008 following the release of his animated short films, “Cat Man Do” and “Let Me In.”

Going forward, the Channel Frederator Network, which averages more than 30 million views per month across its network of 130 channels, will oversee ad sales and distribution for “Simon’s Cat” on YouTube. This includes using YouTube’s TrueView ad service to bring new audiences to the channel, as well as spotlighting the web series on the MCN’s main channel. Other tactics Channel Frederator Network will look to employ include using TrueView and Adwords to drive sales of “Simon’s Cat” merch.

In addition to being the title of a popular web series and YouTube channel, Simon’s Cat is also the name of a company founded by Tofield to manage the entire brand. The company oversees production of the show and distribution to linear channels in international markets, as well as books, apps, and various licensed products based on the show and its star cat.

Other top channels on the Channel Frederator Network include Cartoon Hangover (which offers shows like Pendleton Ward’s “Bravest Warriors” and Natasha Allegri’s “Bee & PuppyCat”) and Jason Steele’s FilmCow Channel (“Charlie the Unicorn,” “Llamas with Hats”).
