INDMUSIC, the largest independent music network on YouTube, just got a bit larger today by partnering with nine record labels, including TMWRK Management, Decon and Temporary Residence Limited.
The partnership will increase INDMUSIC’s profile on the site — the network will work with Grammy-nominated producer Diplo (TMWRK Management), Grammy award-winning artist Lecrae (Reach Records) and indie rock band Explosions in the Sky (Temporary Residence Limited) — as well as help musicians manage their YouTube presence, distribution and revenues generated through advertising. In other words, INDMUSIC will also oversee all online rights and handle monetization for the labels’ full libraries.
“Musicians generally have a zero sum knowledge on how to properly leverage YouTube which causes a lot of money to be left on the table, or often times in the wrong hands,” said INDMUSIC CEO, Brandon Martinez in a press release about the announcement. “Through our work with indie labels and managers, we ensure their artists have a strong digital strategy and monetization plan on YouTube that is the best it possibly can be.”
Helping musicians understand and fully utilize YouTube has become a business strategy all by itself: last month Matt Schlicht launched Hipset Network to help musicians get better at the video platform.
The acquisition of the nine labels — TMWRK Management, Paper Garden Records, Reach Records, Top Shelf Records, Decon, IAMSOUND Records, Mixmash Records, Temporary Residence Limited and LuckyMe Records — will bring INDMUSIC’s channel partner count to 206 and sets their views at 1.4 billion across the network.
