Digital publisher Woven has acquired Uproxx, an entertainment news site covering film, television, sports, tech, and pop culture.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Woven said the Uproxx acquisition will boost its ability to target and reach 18- to 34-year-old males with original video and editorial content and advertising.
Sites/sections under the Uproxx portfolio include Warming Glow (TV), With Leather (sports), Film Drunk (film), and Smoking Section (hip-hop music and culture), among others.
Woven claims a monthly reach of 85 million users across its network of sites.
Original video is also an element of the acquisition. Uproxx has an existing deal with the team behind “5-Second Films” to produce original video content, something which Woven will now be able to tap into.
In addition to the Uproxx acquisition, Woven has hired Myspace co-founder Colin Digiaro as president, a new role at the company. In this capacity, Digiaro, who previously served on Woven’s board of directors, will be responsible for overseeing the company’s growth, strategy, and corporate development.
Prior to Woven, Digiaro co-founded and served as COO of mobile game developer Social Gaming Network. Before that, he was president of Slingshot Labs, a subsidiary of News Corp focused on building and launching “digital assets.” At Myspace, he oversaw the social network’s sales organization.
