Lionsgate has promoted Thomas Hughes to EVP of worldwide digital distribution, a move that represents the growth of the studio’s licensing business for digital and VOD platforms across the globe, the company said.
Hughes oversees sales and distribution for all of Lionsgate’s businesses in the on-demand and digital areas, and is responsible for managing business development opportunities for the studio across new and emerging technologies in digital. The executive played an instrumental role in Lionsgate becoming the first external studio to license content to Comcast as part of the MSO’s entry in the electronic sell-through space, the studio said. He has also negotiated distribution deals with retailers ranging from Amazon and iTunes to Xbox.
“As digital platforms help drive international growth, [Hughes] will continue to work closely with Peter Iacono [international TV executive at Lionsgate] in identifying and executing innovative strategies for meeting demand from an expanding spectrum of buyers worldwide,” said Jim Packer, Lionsgate’s president of worldwide television and digital distribution, in a statement.
Hughes, previously the SVP of worldwide digital, will continue to report to Packer.
