A new Funny or Die series that came out yesterday on the comedy platform stars Maria Bamford in her somewhat accustomed role as a nervous addict type attempting to change for the better. “The Program” centers around an LA 12-step group that focuses on debt.
The first episode, running almost 5 minutes long, also stars Melinda Hill, Oscar Nunez of “The Office,” George Basil, and Jerry Minor. The show was written by Maria Bamford and Melinda Hill, who also executively produce along with Betsy Koch, Anna Wenger, and Amy York Rubin.
Amy York Rubin also directs “The Program,” which is modeled after Alcoholics Anonymous meetings with a somewhat darkly comedic twist. The sketch comedy style show counts Elizabeth Baquet and Sam Fishell as associate producers.
Having premiered on Funny or Die on July 1, “The Program” has accrued 11,276 views thus far. Here’s the first episode:
