Dane Golden, vice president of marketing at Octoly, stopped by VideoInk’s VidCon pop-up studio to talk YouTube and brands. Octoly is a new company connecting brands on an international, holistic level with independent creators. In order to do so, Golden said the company has been working with engineers who have developed an algorithm linking “11 million creators that are talking about brands,” which they have categorized accordingly.
He went on about the power of YouTube as a force to be reckoned with for branding in the digital media space, which can work both negatively and positively for advertisers. He specifically cited how the footage posted on YouTube from a Tesla Motors’ car crash last year caused the company’s stock to suffer a 6.1 percent decline that day alone. His goal now is to utilize this power to positively benefit brands and the creators that can work with them.
