Awesomeness Films, the feature production arm of multi-platform producer and MCN AwesomenessTV, announced today that it has signed a first look deal with Jurassic Party, a new production company focused on young adult content headed by Brian Duffield and Nicki Cortese.
Duffield is currently executive producing “The Babysitter,” which director McG (“Charlie’s Angels,” “Termnator Salvation”) is shooting from Duffield’s script. Duffield has also written “Monster Problems,” “Jane Got a Gun,” “Your Bridesmaid is a Bitch” and “Insurgent.”
Cortese spent two years as VP of film and television at producers Douglas Wick and Lucy Fisher’s Red Wagon Entertainment, where she worked on a reboot of “The Craft” and “Matriarch.” She joined Red Wagon after a six-year stint at Weed Road Pictures.
“Nicki did the flowers for my wedding, so obviously the next logical step was starting a company together,” said Duffield in a statement. “I’m thrilled to work with my friends at Awesomeness and help great people make great movies.”
This week, Awesomeness Films began production in Vancouver on the feature film adaptation of Lauren Oliver’s best-selling YA novel “Before I Fall,” starring Zoey Deutch (“Vampire Academy”), the daughter of actress Leah Thompson (“Back to the Future”) and director Howard Deutch (“Pretty in Pink”). It is being directed by Ry Russo-Young (“Nobody Walks”) and produced by AwesomenessTV founder Brian Robbins and newly-appointed Awesomeness Films chief Matt Kaplan, along with Jon Shestack (“Bring It On,” “Dan In Real Life”).The cast also features Halston Sage (“Neighbors”), Logan Miller (“The Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse”), Kian Lawley (“Shovel Buddies”), Diego Boneta (“Rock of Ages”) and Elena Kampouris (“Men, Women & Children”).
Awesomeness is also responsible for the films “Smosh: The Movie,” produced with Defy Media, and “Expelled,” starring Cameron Dallas.
