Another traditional media exec has entered the streaming space. Today, Discovery Communications announced that it has hired former E! Entertainmnent President Suzanne Kolb as EVP and general manager of Digital Digital Networks.
Kolb takes over for Colin Decker, who been SVP and GM for Discovery Digital Networks since Aug. 2014.
In her new role, Kolb will oversee the company’s portfolio of 70-plus web-native brands (including Revision3, TestTube, Animalist, SourceFed, The DeFranco Network and FHP) and series, original digital development Discovery VR and social partnerships. She will report to Karen Leever, Discovery Communications’ EVP and GM of digital media, a former DirecTV exec who joined the company in October, talking over for Sean Atkins, who left to become president of MTV.

Kolb spent nearly 10 years at E! Entertainment, starting as the SVP of marketing in 2005. She went on to serve as chief marketing officer for E! and Style, GM of E! Online and president of marketing, news and online for E! and The Style Network before being tapped as president of E! Entertainment in July 2011. While at E!, Kolb launched hit franchises “Keeping Up with the Kardashians,” “Chelsea Lately,” “Botched” and “Total Divas” and greenlit the network’s first original scripted series, “The Royals.” She stepped down in Oct. 2014.
Prior to joining Discovery Communications, Kolb was President of E! Entertainment, where she oversaw the global pop culture brand’s ongoing growth across platforms. Under her leadership, E! evolved to a more topical, trendsetting destination, with year-round original programming in more than 160 countries and a thriving digital presence. While at E!, Kolb launched hit franchises Keeping Up with the Kardashians, Chelsea Lately, Botched and Total Divas and greenlit the network’s first original scripted series, The Royals. Kolb joined E! in 2005 as Senior Vice President, Marketing for E! Networks, was subsequently elevated to Chief Marketing Officer for E! & Style and General Manager of E! Online and later became President of Marketing, News and Online for E! and The Style Network.
Kolb will divide her time between Discovery’s Los Angeles and San Francisco offices.
