India’s largest English language trade publisher, Penguin Random House India, is collaborating with FremantleMedia India to produce a web series based on the novel by Durjoy Datta, “World`s Best Boyfriend.” The novel tells a story centered on love, friendship, betrayal and hatred that exists between the two central characters. This marks the first web series partnership between FremantleMedia India and a publishing house in the country.
The series, which premieres in December, will launch on FremantleMedia’s YouTube and Facebook channel simultaneously.
“The book resonated with a lot of my readers and I am sure this series would make the story reach out to a lot more people,” said author Durjoy Datta. “I am positive that FremantleMedia will do a great job of it.”
“We are delighted to be working with Penguin Random House and Durjoy Datta to bring this coming of age story about the emotions of young love to life,” expressed Ron Crasto, SVP, Branded Entertainment & Digital Partnership, FremantleMedia India. “With captivating characters and relatable themes, we’re looking forward to attracting fans of the bestselling novel to our series as well as engaging new digital audiences.”
FremantleMedia India, which recently ventured into the digital space with its web series “Confessions — It’s Complicated,” is responsible for producing shows such as “India’s Got Talent” and “Indian Idol.” The company has operations in 31 countries, producing over 11,000 hours of programming a year, rolling out more than 60 formats and airing more than 420 programs a year worldwide.
