Good Morning Ladies and Gentlemen, sponsors, respected officials, and our last but not least our highly talented athletes! With great honor, I welcome you all to the sports award ceremony of (name of college).
It gives me great pleasure to host this ceremony that has been observed to award the achievements of our teams and athletes. This event truly showcases the commitment that all the athletes have put into the sports competition held this year.
It was indeed a very busy time of year for all of us as we worked really hard to host this competition. Our young athletes participated in all the major disciplines of athletics including running events, field events, and team sports relays. The competitors emerged with flying colors and have made us extremely proud.
The lesson every student should take note of is always to always give your best. That lesson was summed up by American sprinter, Jesse Owens when he said:
“I wanted no part of politics. And I wasn’t in Berlin to compete against any one athlete. The purpose of the Olympics, anyway, was to do your best. As I’d learned long ago from Charles Riley, the only victory that counts is the one over yourself.”
Today, we are here to announce the winners of the ( number ) main awards and celebrate all the participants whatever position they finished in their events. A huge congratulations to all the finalists, you have definitely set a very admiring benchmark for aspiring athletes of this institution to aspire to. We hope all the athletes will continue to achieve brilliance in their respective sports careers and hope their infectious dedication rubs off in other spheres too.
The medal winners have sacrificed a lot. Muhammad Ali once said:
“I hated every minute of training, but I said, ‘Don’t quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion.”
It’s this kind of dedication and attitude you are learning at this institution which will hold you all in great stead for the future.
On behalf of the college staff, I would also like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the efforts of our volunteers and teachers for making this day special for all those who watched the competition and I’m sure I speak for the competitors themselves, too, when I humbly thank you.
This event would have not been possible without you. I also want to thank all the athletes, volunteers, family, and friends for making this sports award ceremony happen at such a grand level.
In the end, I would like to address those participants who even though have not won any of the awards but still put up a great show in the competition as we all know the old saying: ‘It’s the taking part that matters’. Also, I would like to add by saying that it’s never too late to start over and try again. I have a short line for you delivered by Vince Lombardi.
“It’s not whether you get knocked down; it’s whether you get up.”
Now I want to request our chief guest to come on stage to say a few inspiring words before the medal giving ceremony.
Thank You.
